What is G98 connect and notify and when can a solar installer use it?

Short answer

G98 applies when all micro-generators and batteries at a connection point total no more than 16 A per phase: 3.68 kW single-phase or 11.04 kW three-phase. The installer commissions, then sends Form B to the DNO within 28 days, with a cut-out photo if using Connect Direct. Clustered installs in a small area need prior approval.

  • ESQCR reg 22(2) exemption: <=16 A/phase, disconnects on loss of mains, distributor advised before or at commissioning (G98 cl.1.1 allows up to 28 days after).
  • Aggregate counts PV + battery inverters (MIS 3002 note: 3 kW PV + 3 kW battery on one phase = G99).
  • G98 cl.5.1.2: if other installs are planned within 28 days or done in the previous 28 days in a close geographic region, use the multiple-premises procedure (Form A, wait for approval).
