How do I stop pigeons nesting under my solar panels?
Short answer
Fit bird-proofing mesh or clips around the edge of the array, ideally at installation or outside the nesting season. It is an offence to damage or destroy a wild bird's nest while it is in use or being built, so check for active nests first. Mesh should clip to panel frames, not be drilled through them.

- Pigeons nest in the sheltered gap between panels and roof: noise, droppings on panels, blocked gutters and chewed cables are common complaints.
- Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 s1: offence to take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while in use or being built (Scotland amended text; NI separate law).
- Proofing should use non-penetrating clips on panel frames; drilling module frames can void module warranties.
- Droppings on glass cause hot spots and localised losses; clean them rather than waiting for rain.
- Check mesh annually; gaps at array ends and around cable entries are where birds get back in.
