What are the solar planning rules in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland?
Short answer
Wales: panels up to 200 mm from the roof, not above the ridge, with extra limits in conservation areas. Scotland (since May 2024): up to 1 m protrusion, flats included, rear or non-road elevations only in conservation areas. Northern Ireland: 20 cm protrusion. Listed buildings need consent everywhere.
