Where should the inverter and battery go?
Short answer
Somewhere cool, dry, ventilated and easy to reach, close to the consumer unit to keep cables short, and away from bedrooms and escape routes. Garages and utility rooms are common; lofts get hot in summer and are hard to access. Battery location is now governed by fire-safety guidance in PAS 63100, so ask the installer to explain the choice.

In more detail
- Hot lofts cause inverter derating and battery charge limits; cold garages limit battery charging below ~0-5 C unless self-heated.
- PAS 63100:2024 sets fire-protection requirements for dwelling battery installations (see standards_registry; location rules not re-read here).
- Outdoor units need suitable IP rating and shading from direct sun.
- Keep clear of flammable storage; ensure access for isolation and service.
