Do inverters, batteries or backup gateways make noise?
Short answer
Some do. Inverters and batteries can hum or whine under load and fans run in hot weather or while charging hard; backup gateways can buzz from their contactors or transformers. A steady low hum is common; loud buzzing, clicking or crackling is not. Manufacturers generally treat only excessive noise as a warranty issue.

What we saw in the field
[QA review 2026-09-24] C1-8 UNVERIFIABLE (corrected): Customer 1's early backup gateway hummed. No manufacturer documentation says gateway hum is normal (Tesla treats unusual noise as a reason to contact the installer); Sigenergy documents switchover noise only. The earlier note 'consistent with gateway transformer/contactor noise reports' overstated the evidence.
