Do new build homes have to have solar panels?
Short answer
From 24 March 2027 in England, new homes must include on-site renewable electricity, normally solar panels covering the equivalent of 40% of the ground floor area, under the Future Homes Standard. Wales has a similar requirement from 4 March 2027. Scotland has no solar mandate. Transitional rules let some developments continue until 2028.
