How do I choose a good solar installer?
Short answer
Use an MCS-certified installer that belongs to a consumer code such as RECC or HIES, and check both on their websites before signing and again before work starts. Get at least three quotes, ask for an insurance-backed workmanship guarantee and deposit protection, and prefer installers who design from a site survey rather than satellite images alone.

- RECC members must insure deposits, stage payments and workmanship warranties.
- EST: get quotes from at least three installers; also quote for a battery.
- TrustMark is the government-endorsed quality scheme used for some grant-funded work; many MCS installers are also TrustMark registered.
- Ask: who does the electrical work, is it notified under Part P (England & Wales), who handles DNO notification, what is the lead time for G99 if needed.
