What does the Powerwall 'Grid outage' notification mean?
Short answer
It means the grid has gone down and your Powerwall is running the backed-up circuits. Tesla's app alert list (stored earlier, not re-read 24 September 2026) says Powerwall is supplying the home and a second notice follows when power returns. If you are not told within about five minutes, check your phone's internet, because an outage can cut it.

What does this mean?
The Backup Gateway 2 decides when to go off-grid. Powerwall 3 will not supply backup if its On/Off switch is OFF, if the Powerwall AC breaker is open, if the cable voltage drop is too large, or if it loses contact with the Gateway (Tesla installer manual). Reduce big loads to make the reserve last longer. Tesla's alert page could not be re-read on 24 September 2026 because the site returned HTTP 403. The alert wording comes from existing records.
What should I do first?
Record the code and current battery state before changing settings. Follow only the owner-safe reset steps in the manual.
When do I need an engineer?
Use an installer or manufacturer support route if the fault returns, involves isolation or protection, or the manual does not give an owner reset.
What to do next
If the system is hot, smoking, damaged or making unusual electrical noises, move away from it and follow the manufacturer emergency guidance.
