What do VE.Bus Error 8 or Error 11 mean on a MultiPlus-II?
Short answer
VE.Bus errors come from Victron inverter/chargers. Error 1 and 3 usually follow another phase shutting down on overload, low battery or temperature. Errors 8 and 11 are failed relay self-tests, often caused by neutral-earth wiring, swapped live and neutral, or leakage in loads, sometimes by a faulty relay. Victron says diagnosis is for trained professionals. Checked 24 September 2026.

What does this mean?
Error 11 detail report on GX (VE.Bus firmware 454+, Venus OS 2.23+); failing step 8 = L/N swapped Error 8 diagnosis depends on hardware revision (serial number table) Use factory-made network cables - self-crimped RJ45 causes errors
What should I do first?
Record the code and current battery state before changing settings. Follow only the owner-safe reset steps in the manual.
When do I need an engineer?
Use an installer or manufacturer support route if the fault returns, involves isolation or protection, or the manual does not give an owner reset.
What to do next
If the system is hot, smoking, damaged or making unusual electrical noises, move away from it and follow the manufacturer emergency guidance.
