What do the flashing lights on my Fox ESS EP, EQ or ECS battery mean?
Short answer
Fox ESS batteries show faults as patterns on a status light plus four charge-level lights. Fox's 2025 manuals list about 30 patterns per range. A flashing status light usually means a protection, such as over-temperature or over-current, which clears on its own. A steady one means a hardware fault, such as a blown fuse or stuck relay, needing an engineer.

What does this mean?
EP manual V1.0.6 page 30, EQ manual V1.0.8 page 29, ECS manual V1.0.2 page 27. On the ECS, the pattern uses a red light instead. Fox says a lit status light does not always mean the battery is faulty. If the alarm shows on both the battery lights and the inverter screen after a restart, contact your distributor or installer.
What should I do first?
Record the code and current battery state before changing settings. Follow only the owner-safe reset steps in the manual.
When do I need an engineer?
Use an installer or manufacturer support route if the fault returns, involves isolation or protection, or the manual does not give an owner reset.
What to do next
If the system is hot, smoking, damaged or making unusual electrical noises, move away from it and follow the manufacturer emergency guidance.
